Excusion tips
Switzerland boasts the best public transport network all over the world. Trains and buses run reliably and punctually according to schedule. Tickets can be purchased at staffed train stations (Sargans, Landquart, Chur), ticket vending machines, or online at www.sbb.ch or via the SBB app. It is recommended to buy discount cars such as the Swiss Travel Pass or a season ticket through Interrail (One Country Pass or similar). If don't have one or don't want to, the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) offers day passes or dsaver day passes. These allow you to travel freely throughout Switzerland for an entire day. Available on the website or app.
Also check out the "Ostwind 9-Uhr-Pass". For just CHF 40.00 you can travel all over Eastern Switzerland for a whole day - regardless of the train type. It takes you to Schaffhausen, Schwägalp (starting point for the Säntis climb), Appenzell, Constance, Glarus, Elm, the valley of Toggenburg, the abbey town of Wil and many, many more. Please note that this pass is only valid from 9 am onwards on weekdays, but all day on weekends.
The Rhaetian Railway also offers special seasonal deals. For example, the Graubünden General Season ticket in summer time for just CHF 115.00 per person for a whole month, the "Silver Thistle" promotion in autumn, and the Graubünden Pass, available year-round. All these day passes and monthly offers are already valid on the SBB line from Sargans towards Chur. So you don't need a separate ticket to enter the canton of Grisons.
